DesignLab understands that Product Manufacturers are focused on developing excellent products.  Our team will work with your staff to give you a strong understanding of the strengths of BIM, how your company can realize the benefits of digitizing your product library and walking you through the steps of developing and managing your BIM content.  We typically break down our engagements this way:

Preliminary Discussion:

  • Introduction to DesignLab.
  • BIM overview
  • Background of Autodesk Revit
  • Potential scope of work (products to be developed)

Quote generation: Will vary based on number/complexity of objects and urgency of delivery.

Data gathering: To facilitate the modeling process, DesignLab will work with your technical staff to gather all relevant data related to the products that will be created.  We require that the technical staff be assigned to work with DesignLab throughout the engagement to provide a direct line of communication and have the authority to make design decisions.

Prototype development: A prototype can be developed for the manufacturer and it’s features reviewed in detail before continuing with the full engagement.  This allows the client to have a strong understanding of the end product, and DesignLab will be able to make the appropriate modifications that can be carry through to the remaining models.

Product Development/Approvals:

Models are completed and approved.  DesignLab will be available to answer questions and help your staff with any technical questions.

The heart of DesignLab’s rigorous production process is built around some key roles:
  • Client Engagement Manager
  • Production Manager
  • Technical Staff and Functional Experts

Throughout your engagement with DesignLab, you will have a Client Manager who will usher you through the process of developing your product scope, managing the contract, facilitating data collection, Revit content creation and finally, delivery and support of the objects for your firm.

The Client Engagement Manager will work closely with the Production Manager who oversees our Technical and Functional experts who combine decades of Revit content development experience along with experts in Architecture and Engineering to ensure that products are built technically but also with the end user in the mind.

Furthermore, DesignLab bases their development model off the Agile software development methodology.
  • Our operational model is built off regular collaboration with our BPM clients.
  • We are strong proponents of iterative development, encouraging utilizing prototypes to express design intent that sets expectations for all parties and serves as a template for the engagement.
  • Our modeling teams are particularly focused on co-location and pair programming and work in open, self-organizing teams.  Our Production Manager maintains a development environment focused on short effective communication that focuses on continual and iterative development where working models are the focus of the deliverable, to communicate progress.
